What is PRP therapy?

Platelets are one of the components in our blood. They are extremely helpful to the body and can heal injuries in soft tissues. The platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy uses platelets to heal the body and restore it to its youthful health and energy. When injected in high quantities, the platelets can stimulate cell restoration and regeneration, thereby healing any inflammation, injury, or infection in the tissue.

But apart from the medical benefits offered by the PRP therapy, are the cosmetic benefits. By replacing your old and damaged cells with new and healthy cells, platelets can:

Who is an ideal candidate for PRP therapy?

PRP therapy is a very safe procedure that can be undergone by any person:

• Who is above the age of 18.
• Who sees signs of aging like wrinkles and pigmentation.
• Who has loose and sagging muscles and wants a fuller body.
• Who has scars or stretch marks on the body and wants to remove them.
• Who experiences severe hair loss.
• Who wants to eliminate stress and feel energized and fresh.

When consulting Dr. Amber Wiebe, it’s important to mention if you:

• Are pregnant or nursing your baby.
• Have a medical condition (which may flare-up because of the platelet injections).
• Are on any medicines that may interfere with the PRP therapy.
• Are on anticoagulants.
• Have been diagnosed with anemia.

If you meet any of the above conditions, please note that you may not be eligible for the PRP therapy. Dr. Amber Wiebe will recommend an alternative treatment that you can undergo, which will give you similar results.

The PRP therapy process at Destin Botox

PRP therapy starts with a consultation. Dr. Amber Wiebe does a thorough evaluation of your health and your cosmetic needs. Once you are eligible for the PRP therapy, we draw a small vial of blood from your body. We apply a numbing agent where the blood will be drawn to prevent any pain or discomfort.

Once your blood is collected, it is placed in a centrifuge, where the blood is separated from the plasma. This plasma contains the platelets. The platelets are harnessed from the plasma, and a concentration of the platelets is filled in the syringe. The syringe with the platelets is injected into the body areas where you require firming and contouring. Usually, an anesthetic is mixed with the platelet solution to numb the injection site and prevent pain after the PRP therapy. Overall, it should take around 45 to 60 minutes for the entire PRP therapy to be completed.

Is there any downtime
after the PRP therapy?

There is little to no downtime after the PRP therapy. The areas where you were injected may feel a bit sore for a few hours. You can resume your regular duties. The minor bruising and swelling at the injection site will go away in a day or two.

For a few days, you’ll begin to notice an improvement in the way you look and feel. In about two months, there will be a significant change in the tone and texture of your skin, the firmness of your body, and your hair’s health.

Frequency of PRP therapy

Depending on the type of results you seek, a single PRP therapy treatment may involve 2 to 4 sessions that are administered 4 to 6 weeks apart. Once you complete the therapy, you won’t need to undergo the procedure again for 6 to 12 months, and Dr. Amber Wiebe will provide the best follow-up treatment plan.
