What is a VI Peel?

The VI Peel is a gentle chemical peel formulated to treat mild signs of aging and skin damage. It was formulated in 2005 as an acne treatment solution. In addition to reducing acne, the VI Peel contains chemical ingredients that can stimulate the production of elastin and collagen in the skin.

What chemicals are used in the VI Peel?

The VI Peel is so effective thanks to the unique ingredients used to formulate it. Unlike other chemical peels which contain just one or two acid peels, the VI Peel is a blend of 5 skin-friendly acid peels:

• Salicylic acid exfoliates your skin, cleaning it of grime and toxins.
• Phenol is an antibacterial chemical that heals acne and kills any bacteria on your skin.
• Retin-A reduces the appearance of mild lines and wrinkles.
• Trichloroacetic Acid stimulates collagen release and deep tissue healing.
• Vitamin C is an antioxidant that gives your skin an ethereal glow.

The VI Peel process at Destin Medical Spa

The VI Peel process starts with a consultation with Dr. Amber Wiebe. She is a nationally-reputed aesthetic physician, and she will evaluate you to check whether your skin is right for the VI Peel or not. Ideally, anyone who doesn’t have a severe dermatological condition that may flare up because of the peel can easily undergo the VI Peel. The peel works great with all skin tones.

On the day of the treatment, your skin is cleansed using a special cleanser to remove all the surface-level grime, toxins, and pollution. You should stop using any abrasive skincare products or cosmetics for 2 to 3 days before the peel. This way, you won’t experience a burning sensation when the peel is applied.

Next, the first layer of the VI Peel is applied to your skin. Dr. Amber Wiebe will massage the peel gently into your skin, focusing specifically on the areas where you have discoloration. The peel is left to rest for a few minutes, after which a second layer is applied. If you need it, Dr. Amber Wiebe will apply the VI Peel on your neck and chest region as well, to remove blemishes.

The VI Peel is a pain-free chemical peel. Most patients experience a minor tingle on their skin, but there’s no burning sensation. Once both layers are applied, you can drive yourself back home. The peel must be kept on for 5 hours and then washed off. You will begin to see the results of the peel after 7 to 10 days.

What to expect post-peel?

After your VI Peel in Destin, you’ll notice how your skin begins to peel-off in flakes. Don’t be alarmed if the peeling seems too severe. The acids in the VI Peel disintegrate old dermal cells and regenerate new skin cells.

You are given hydrocortisone cream, to use every day until your skin stops peeling. Don’t use cosmetics for at least a day, and even when you do, choose skin-friendly ones that don’t have abrasive chemicals. Your skin might feel slightly itchy, but don’t scratch it, because it may scar.

In 7 to 10 days, your skin should stop peeling and return to normal. Your skin will be more supple, elastic, and have fewer blemishes.
