Lip Fillers Offer More Than Fuller Lips

Gone are the days of lip implants and collagen and silicone lip injections. These days, it’s all about hyaluronic acid (HA), which your body produces naturally. HA bonds to water beneath the skin, adding fullness and moisture to the area of injection. Results are softer, feel and look more natural, and rarely cause side-effects. It’s also easy to reverse, if needed.

All of our lip fillers are FDA-approved hyaluronic acid injections which include a small amount of lidocaine (a local anesthetic) to offer greater comfort throughout your treatment. The Juvederm Family of fillers, from the maker of Botox (Allergan), and Revanesse Versa are popular for lip and facial rejuvenation in our Santa Rosa Beach medical spa.

You are likely a good candidate for lip fillers if you are a healthy adult 21 years of age or older and desire fuller, shapely, youthful lips. We will determine if you can safely receive lip injections during your personalized consultation.

Women who are pregnant or nursing should not have lip injections. If you are allergic to lidocaine or have had a reaction to hyaluronic acid fillers in the past, you should not get a lip filler treatment. Some patients with severe allergies and anaphylaxis may be advised to explore alternatives to injectables. Some prescriptions and over-the-counter remedies may increase the risk of side effects. This is why it’s important to provide your full health history to your aesthetic physician.

We will discuss your lip goals, go over your medical and cosmetic treatment history, and examine your lips and face. These steps will determine what treatment(s) we recommend for you in order to ensure safe, aesthetically pleasing results.

We will provide you with pre-treatment instructions. These must be followed in order to reduce the risk of side-effects and ensure the best results from your lip filler treatment. Some of these instructions include avoiding blood thinners, such as aspirin and alcohol consumption, as these increase the likelihood of bruising.

Topical numbing cream and ice may be used before and during your treatment. Your lip filler also contains lidocaine, a local anesthetic, to provide additional comfort during your injections. Lip fillers may be applied using a very fine needle or cannula, strategically placing the hyaluronic acid to achieve the desired result.

Aftercare instructions will also be provided. Please follow these instructions carefully, as they ensure beautiful results with fewer side-effects. Some of these include avoiding direct sunlight and intense exercise for a short period of time. Always wear sunscreen, including on your lips, and avoid pursing your lips to drink through straws. Both will help your lips remain youthful for longer.

You may experience swelling following your treatment, which will subside over the coming days. This is normal. It will take a few days to see the full results, and we recommend you return shortly after so we can check on your results, ensure you are happy with your new lips, and, if needed, apply more filler to finish off your look.

Depending on the filler used and your metabolism, your lip filler results will last six months to one year. If you need touch-ups in between treatments, additional filler may be used. We may also recommend a Botox Lip Flip to add a little extra projection to avoid overfilling your lips.
