Laser Skin Resurfacing

Rejuvenate your skin

Your skin experiences wear and tear as you age. Exposure to pollution, the elements, and abrasive cosmetics or skincare products, can reduce your skin’s health. Wrinkles may develop, pigmentation may appear, and pores may get enlarged. All of these can affect the way you look and feel.

Cosmetic treatment can help you reverse the impact of pollution and time. Laser skin resurfacing, in particular, can help you regain your youthful, supple, soft, and blemish-free skin.

At Destin Medical Spa, our primary aesthetic physician Dr. Amber Wiebe has a Mastership from The American Academy of Facial Esthetics and is a Diplomate of the American Academy of Facial Esthetics. She has considerable experience providing laser skin resurfacing treatment to patients. Visit our Santa Rosa Beach, FL medspa today for a consultation.

Why choose laser skin resurfacing?

Laser skin resurfacing is a highly effective cosmetic treatment that uses lasers to improve the appearance and health of your skin. Short bursts of intense and concentrated laser pulses are directed toward your skin. The heat from the laser pulses removes the old and damaged skin cells, revealing younger skin underneath. After the treatment, you’ll look rejuvenated and revitalized.

• Laser skin resurfacing is excellent for treating:
• Wrinkles, fine lines & folds
• Pigmentation, brown spots & uneven skin tone
• Acne & acne scars
• Stretch marks
• Poor skin texture

Post-treatment, you’ll start to notice a change in your skin, and within a week, your skin will look significantly better.

Types of laser skin resurfacing

Depending on the severity of your cosmetic condition, Dr. Amber Wiebe will recommend either non-ablative or ablative laser skin resurfacing.

The non-ablative laser skin resurfacing is ideal if you have mild lines and pigmentation. The laser light reaches the surface of the skin (epidermis), destroying damaged and old skin cells and stimulating increased collagen production. This collagen improves your skin tone and texture considerably.

The ablative laser skin resurfacing is helpful if you have moderate marks, blemishes, and discoloration in the deeper layers of the skin. Here, more powerful laser beams are directed toward your skin, and the beams reach the dermis, where they stimulate the growth of new collagen and elastin fibers.

Ablative resurfacing is done either using fractionated CO2 lasers or Erbium lasers or, in some cases, a combination of the two.

Non-ablative laser skin resurfacing is comparatively milder and gentler on the skin than ablative laser skin resurfacing. You won’t take as long to recover. However, results last longer in ablative laser skin resurfacing.

What happens during the procedure?

At Destin Medical Spa, we have helped multiple patients regain fresh, soft, mark-free, glowing skin with the laser skin resurfacing treatment. We can help you too.

The procedure starts with a consultation, where Dr. Amber Wiebe will evaluate your cosmetic needs and recommend either the ablative or non-ablative laser skin resurfacing procedure. To prepare for the treatment, you are advised not to take any anti-coagulants for a few days before the procedure, as it can affect blood clotting.

On the day of the procedure, your face is cleansed using a gentle cleanser. Since the laser resurfacing treatment can be a bit painful, a numbing agent is applied to anesthetize your face. You may get a prickling sensation on your skin during the procedure, but no pain.

At Destin Medical Spa, we use the Viora V-FR Handpiece to give you stunning anti-aging results. The laser uses a proprietary SVC™ (Switching, Vacuum, and Cooling) Technology. Here, laser beams switch between the location and depth of the skin, ensuring each layer of your skin is treated. A gentle vacuum is applied to your skin to pull and tighten the skin. The Viora V-FR Handpiece has a cooling mechanism, and the device doesn’t heat up and doesn’t burn your skin during the treatment.

Depending on your bespoke treatment needs, the entire procedure can take anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours to finish. You can use the laser skin resurfacing procedure to remove blemishes from your face, neck, and hands. Once the session is complete, Dr. Amber Wiebe will apply a soothing lotion on your face, to stimulate recovery.

Recovering from the laser skin resurfacing procedure

After the treatment, your skin may have swollen slightly. There may be minor bruising and tenderness as well. These will reduce in a day. As your old skin begins to peel-off and fall, you may feel itchy, but avoid scratching the treated surface, as you may inadvertently cause an infection or create scars.

Dr. Amber Wiebe will provide antibacterial lotion that can protect your skin and heal it. You are advised to use this lotion and SPF30+ sunblock every day for the next 2 to 3 weeks. They protect your raw skin from getting injured.

The skin should stop peeling after 7 to 10 days. You will then notice a dramatic reduction in wrinkles, marks, scars, and pigmentation. Your skin will feel softer and will be fuller in appearance.

You have to avoid wearing make-up only for the first day after treatment. Subsequently, you can use skin-friendly cosmetics.
